Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita

Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita

There is always something magical about staying at a Four Seasons Resort. The brand is known for their high 5-star standards and unparalleled service. During our travels to Mauritius, we decided to end the trip with 3 relaxing days in a hotel after having spent the first half of the trip in a house together with our friends. In the north-eastern part of the island, you’ll find the stunning and secluded Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita with everything natural, modern, rustic and luxurious. Just like one imagines when thinking of a luxury retreat on a tropical island. A place where you can spend all day coasting across the water in your own sailing boat, tour a former sugar plantation, hop over to Ile Aux Cerfs, make friends with a giant tortoise, play golf all day and watch the sun set while sipping on rum cocktails. Paradise? Yes! (Even when it rains!)

What I liked about the Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita:

  • I think that the moment you check into a Four Seasons Resort, your expectations are usually pretty high. After all, it is one of the most renowned names in the hotel industry. The brand prides itself with outstanding service, but what we experienced at the resort in Mauritius was simply above and beyond. I don’t think I have ever been surrounded by staff that is so attentive and sincere before. We were greeted by our names everywhere we went, everyone knew we were traveling as a party of 4 and after our friend had some health problems even the Food & Beverage manager was informed and came by to see how she was doing. Also, we mentioned to the concierge that we would love to try some local dishes and the next day the beach boys said they wish they would have known, they would have brought their favorite spices from home… I mean, seriously?! Everyone was SO kind but without being pushy or annoying. Like I said – probably the best service I have ever experienced in my life.
  • When it comes to hotels, I am a major sucker for villas. I love the feeling of having your own little home that offers a ton of space and privacy, rather than just a room. Obviously this is not an option in cities or more crowded locations, but for an island like Mauritius, the villa-style accommodations of the Four Seasons are perfect! We stayed in a beach villa and even though I loved the natural (= lots of brown wood) interior, it was a bit dark for my personal taste (*cough* Instagram feed). However, the hotel also offers a few new sanctuary beach villas that are kept in shades of white, blue and turquoise for those of you that have the same #firstworldproblems as I do and plan your Instagram feed according to a certain color scheme.
Good to know: The resort also has larger villas with up to 5 bedrooms that can accommodate 10 adults + 2 children.
  • A nice touch was the mosquito spray placed in the closet – which is definitely necessary when it rains a lot and we didn’t have our own.
  • THE FOOD! Oh my goodness. Breakfast was included in our rate and I seriously wish I could have had breakfast there for the rest of my life. It was a mix of buffet style (such as fresh fruit and pastries) and a la carte menu. My daily must-have was the high-protein egg white scramble with smoked salmon and avocado, the porridge was amazing (especially with a spoon of peanut butter from the buffet) and we tried our way through a whole bunch of local dishes such as Mauritian pancakes or spicy eggs. My personal highlight was the juice bar, where fresh juices where made to order.
Also, we tried all 3 of their dinner restaurant options (Italian, French & Buffet/Local). I have to admit, I am not the biggest fan of eating Italian or French food when on vacation somewhere in the Indian Ocean, however, so many different people recommended the Italian Aquapazza restaurant to us that we went there on the first night. It was 100% as good as everyone said it would be. Chef Paolo is a true Italian and we all agreed that the food was some of the best we’ve ever had.
For pre-dinner cocktails or digestive after the meal, don’t miss O-Bar. We had a cocktail making class there with lots of local ingredients to keep us distracted from all the rain one afternoon and it was so much fun – not to mention that the rum cocktails were really good!
  • For me, vacations are always my favorite time to workout. I feel like it just fits into my daily schedule so much better and actually enjoy working out daily. That’s why the gym is always important to me. Little did I know that the Four Seasons has one of the best hotel gyms I have ever come across. With an olympic-sized swimming pool for laps, outdoor punchbags for boxing, a Power Plate, 16 cardio & fitness machines (not just 1 bike + 1 treadmill like most other hotel gyms…), free weights and a separate room/studio for stretching, core work or yoga – there is literally nothing else you could want or need. Plus, they had two trainers there available for personal trainings and classes, but when they weren’t teaching they just hung out at the gym to answer any questions or help you out a bit. For everyone that would rather spend their time playing golf than sweating at the gym – the resort offers complimentary golf on its Ernie Els Design 18-hole par-72 championship course.
  • Is there anything better than a post-workout massage? Nope! Mike and I booked the Mauritian Fusion treatment for our last afternoon on the island and it was pure bliss! Definitely one of the best treatments I have ever had – but also super pricy. I think we paid about 140€ per person for 60 minutes. But vacations are all about splurging, right? The spa facilities are super relaxing and tucked away in the Mauritian nature with views over the water.
  • Even before booking our accommodations for the trip, I knew that I wanted to visit Ile Aux Cerfs, a small island off the coast of Mauritius with stunning white beaches and crystal clear water. As I was talking to the concierge, I found out that the resort offers free transport to and from Ile Aux Cerfs every hour. So perfect! From any other resort, we would have had to book a tour for around 60€ pP. With the free shuttle service from our hotel, we were totally flexible and when the rain decided to return after only an hour on the island we simply hopped back on the next boat and were back at the resort in no time!
  • While I usually never blow-dry my hair on these kinds of vacations, I did do so the night before our flight. And this is a definite first, but the hair dryer at the hotel was actually better than my own at home. This has never ever happened before! I am totally kicking myself in the butt that I forgot to write down the brand and model…

What I would change:

  • Finding something negative about a hotel like the Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita is almost an impossible task. And I really can’t think of anything. However, I did find it hard for us to have local dishes for dinner. Without a doubt, both the Italian and French restaurants are incredible and we loved our dinners there. But we all agreed that we really wanted some local curries, creole rice or typical Mauritian dishes. There is a Mauritian buffet at the resort once per week, but unfortunately not while we were there. BUT (and this is a huge but!) we simply mentioned our wish to the staff and they were kind enough to make us a ton of local food for our last night. Happy end!
