FITNESS: yoga at home + 30-day challenge
In Koh Samui last week, we were in for a real treat one morning. Set amidst the treetops in a little hut, we got to practice yoga with a true yogi (16 years of practice) who taught me more in 1 hour than I’ve learned in most yoga classes combined. So inspirational! And a good reminder to do yoga more often again. Back home, I was craving a yoga session on Monday night and decided to head to Youtube for some help in the “yoga at home” department. Turns out Youtube basically has the answer for everything – including yoga tutorials and online classes.
When it comes to fitness, I go through phases. Sometimes I like to run a lot, then I am doing a HIIT challenge or going to weekly spinning classes. Even though it is only day 5, I think I am currently in the middle of a yoga phase, which I plan to combine with one longer (at least 45 min) cardio session per week and one HIIT or strength workout of around 30 minutes. Since yoga is something that really feels like “me time”, I have challenged myself to a 30-day yoga challenge where I want to do at least 20 minutes of yoga every single day. Today, day 5, I am treating myself to a private yoga class to kick-off the weekend, but other than that I have been doing yoga at home in my living room with nothing but a mat and a Youtube video. Since I have received a ton of questions regarding which videos I like on Snapchat, I wanted to share my 3 favorite options with you today.
1) Morning Yoga For Weight Loss: I have always liked slightly more challenging yoga classes that leave you with sore arms or legs and help ton and sculpt the body. That’s why I searched “yoga for weight loss” and clicked on the option with over 4 million views. It is an amazing way to start your day and only takes 20 minutes – sore arms and shoulders included!
2) Detox & Weight Loss Yoga Workout: While the first video is great for arms, this one has a lot more legs involved due to the chair pose. It’ll get your heart rate up and thighs burning! Again, only 20 minutes and super easy to do at home with Erica Vetra (she’s my personal favorite on Youtube) walking you through the poses step-by-step.
3) Yoga For Digestions & Detox: I tried this one last night after dinner when I was feeling a bit too stuffed and wanted to do something before going to bed with a super full tummy. Obviously it is not the best idea to do yoga right after eating, but due to the many twisting poses this will massage your intestines and get that digestions going. I also felt like it was very calming and really good to do in the evenings.
Do any of you do yoga at home? Do you have recommendations of videos for me? I’d love to try them during my 30-day yoga challenge!
